She's a Fashion Killa...and turns 26 tomorrow!

We commemorate rebel queen Riri's most memorable outfits thus far:

This exotic beauty has never been one to follow trends but sets her own and boy doesn't she nail them time and time again! Fashion is about telling a story, taking chances and having fun with your look- Rihanna defines fashion. We definitely take notes from her style book. Whether she is goth, girls or gangsta, Rihanna seems to always get it right. Here are our top selections for some of her most memorable outfits yet.

She stunned during the Met ball in New York in this Crocodile Skin black Tom Ford gown which hugged her curves to perfection.
Her skin glows with radiance as she opted for a dark hair colour to match the dramatic look

This is a perfect example of how her look transitions from punk to feminine effortlessly. Worth noting is how much she maintains an element of originality even with this rather posh wardrobe choice.
She wore this dress at London Fashion Week where she launched her River Island collection.

The is something angelic about this bad girl in white. Rihanna chose the perfect ensemble for her 'Nude' Fragrance launch.

She wears her signature jumpsuits. We have seen her in a similar green suit and our pick is definitely black!

This Pink Marchesa frock screams perfection. She wore this lovely gown in 2013 at the Times 100 gala.

This has got to be my all time favourite! She exudes youthfulness unquestioned!

Rihanna wore this bizzare ViKtor and Rolf dress so well at a Grammy Bash in LA

Who can forget the mother of all showstoppers? I think it is safe to say that after Rihanna wore this sheer white gown, Hollywood has never looked back.

We unpack our top five BAFTA Fashion Hits

(Pic source: Just Jared) Amy Adams made the best dressed list in this minimalist star black ensemble. She was a vision of class and sophistication with a chic updo to complete her look. While we love black and better yet black mash we only give Amy 7/10 points for this one.

If you do not know who Lupita Nyong'o is by now, which rock have you been hiding under. The Yale Film School graduate is making waves in Hollywood right now. Breaking stereotypes, she is every bit the newest 'it girl'. Award season has earned her her rightful spot in the fashion front. With bright colours as a popular option for her dark chocolate skin, she has wowed us time and time again. Our favourites being this green stunner, the turquoise gown she wore at the SAG Awards and who can forget that Orange cape at the Golden Globes. We can not wait for March 2, Oscar buzz.

(Pic source; Perez Hilton) Now I am a fan of women in men's suits. But I have to say I fell in love all over again with the idea of oozing sex appeal effortlessly in men's wear when I saw this picture of Brad and Ange. Now question is - Who wears the pants in this family? What makes the outfit even more sexy is the black court heels Angie wear. She couldn't have chosen a better shoe. 9/10 points for Brad and Ange

Oh Bow Down to Oprah. She recently turned 60 and has noticeably dropped a couple of pounds. The dress' cut, colour style and detail scream perfection. We Love! 10/10 for the Big O.

Having featured in a historic movie playing the character of Winnie Mandela, trying to hard would not be an option for this lovely lady. after all with bragging rights so massive why try hard? She nailed it in this simple, understated pink dress with a black detail on her waist.   Again another minimalist ace!8/10

Oh Bradley Cooper. The hottest white man I know. Yes I said it...he is. His physic, towering stature, lean mascular legs and face of a God (Eyes enchanting) he pretty much looks surreal. In Alexander McQueen, Mr Cooper cleaned up well in his tux! 10/10

Kim's Stylish Evolution

Colour blocking made chic

All thanks to her romantic union with Hip Hop royalty Kanye West, Kim Kardashian style has evolved her from another curvy, exotic babe, flaunting her curves every chance she get to a lady with an understanding of style.

Those who have followed the Kardashian dynasty ever since it hit us all in our faces 7 years ago can attest that it's not just Kim's style that has changed. Her skin has gotten fairer perhaps credited to the lesser quantity of tanning spray which is more classier anyway so praise the Lord for that! Amen!

Also her hairline has become more defined over the years with a less messier look to it. The Arminian beauty has never admitted to it but perhaps laser hair removal has given her a more structured forehead than her previous, which disappeared into her full head of thick hair. We cant say we are complaining about that either. She looks good. Nothing drastic but mild manipulations to achieve a more appealing result.

But Perhaps this could be the best makeover of all- meeting a man who has an understanding of fashion! Kanye's style influence on Kim has not been hard to miss. She has been wearing clothes that actually look expensive. Yes we said it- Kim used to wear cheap looking expensive clothing!
She makes this ultra revealing number look classy

Mr West has overhauled his soon to be Mrs' wardrobe in a drastic manner. Her laundry looks more sophisticated, elaborate and effortless. The softer hair  colour, with less hair extensions also completes her new look, flawlessly. We may not be big fans of Kimye because well The Empress finds them pretty hard to believe. . . Call it jealousy! but at least something good has come out of this union-Thanks to Kanye.

We know she did not pick this one on her own.

Janelle Monae embracing her femininity!

She is often times associated with being a tomboy and a rumoured lesbian because of her wardrobe which is predominantly black and white suits and tuxedos. The lesbian tag may not be true because reports have surfaced in the past that Janelle actually dates guys and is in a committed relationship.
'Primetime', her catchy new single which features Miguel showcases a different side to the usually very manly artist. Her hair is let down and she wears that black and white striped dress so well.
Why she chooses to hide that banging body under men's wear all the time is just not fair to all the bigger women who would die to have her figure.
Nonetheless personal style is just that -personal. The Empress loves Janelle's new look and hopes to see this talented young woman whipped in more silhouette complimenting dresses in future. For the first time, I would believe men across the world are also beginning to notice her as the vixen she is. Whatever fountain of sexiness you are drinking from miss, we love it!

While the tux has become her trade mark, we would still like to see more of Janelle the woman.

A Tribute to Whitney Houston

Today marks two years since the woman with the most beautiful voice in the world was found dead in a bath tub in a hotel room. With the belief that all our days are numbered, it perhaps is a bit hard to comprehend why substance controlled her life for many. While nobody knows the answers but perhaps Whitney herself, I believe Hollywood is so fleeting and vain that celebrities are the loneliest troubled spirits one could encounter. Drugs have become a solace-a hiding place- a comfort home.
While her ample talent was often times overshadowed by the foul habit that went on to cost her life many still do gasp with amazement when her music plays. There will never be another Whitney. One voice eternally gone- all we are left with is it's memories. An avid reality show junkie like myself recently started tuning into The Houston's a reality show following the lives of the Houston's post death. The heart weeps during every episode as you watch Krissy resemble her mother, not just in appearance but in her erratic behaviour. I can vouch that the troubled daughter is almost always intoxicated on the show. It's painful to watch, simply because one can see through her actions- we can see the pain. In one episode where her God mother Cece Winans featured, Krissy explained in her state of incoherence how weary she had grown of the judgements by her family and critics alike. 'Don't judge me-they judged mom, look what happened to her-she is dead!'...heart ranching words.
Many years of rooting for her mother's recovery, left the world shattered on February 11, 2012 when finally the years of battling with drug addiction claimed the life of Whitney Houston.
While no body knows what Krissy goes through on a day to day having been raised by a mother who had her demons, one could only hope the future promises better for her.

Phumla-Posh Turns 22

I regarded 21 to have been the best age of my life. In fact if I could I would just stay forever young. Perhaps, aging is life's inevitable reality. This said taking note that I highlight 'aging'...Many people age but very few actually grow up.
As I marked yet another age milestone, it dawned to me that I have just one opportunity to leave a mark, to live a life. I decided that I would not merely exist and short change myself and others alike of an experience, a tale to tell, a memory  to hold on to, relationships to build and maintain and lessons to learn.
You simply learn nothing from taking no chances. As an avid theorist junkie, I live vicariously through learning from others while of course remaining true to self (I like to be asked what I want rather than being told what to settle for).
Growth entails enriching your self concept, creating a brand of one self, being sure of who you are and not allowing others to script your life. You learn who are, your likes and dislikes, opinions through interactions with others. This is where our self concept is shaped.
God plays a major role in conditioning our persona's too. Being a Christian-fundamentalist-hardly religious, concepts of the bible offer guidance. I like teachings of faith because from growth we learn that regardless of religious inclination, faith is a universal basis of day to day life. 'Faith is using your last money to purchase a wallet,' one theorist once said. We live by faith, because no one promises tomorrow. But the key concept is to live.
Earlier in the day the draining thought of having to spend my day around bad energy really upset me but nonetheless from the decision  not to allow anything to get to me, I was looking very much forward to spending my day with the people that mean something to me. As social as people may perceive me to be, I have a very close knit circle of friends so I was clear that my birthday dinner would be as intimate as it was. Not forgetting the lovely messages and calls I received all day. Embracing love from the people who genuinely care is most important and returning the favour even better!
Thanks to everyone who made my day all too worth it...best birthday ever!!
